Apocalypse Now (Or In The Next Decade)

Nuclear non-proliferation just ain't what it used to be. I find the following very disturbing:

There is a 70-percent risk of an attack somewhere in the world with a weapon of mass destruction in the next decade, arms experts predicted in a survey released on Tuesday. They also said up to five more countries are likely to acquire nuclear weapons within the next 10 years. - Reuters

If I had a backyard I'd start building a fallout shelter...acutally that's a complete lie, I'd probably just play more xbox.

We have seen in Afganistan and Iraq what happens to countries that don' have nuclear weapons. So, if I was a country, I'd want one two. Besides, in the Nuclear Non-proliferation treaty, the non-nuclear countries agreed to not develop nuclear weapons. In exchange, the countries that had them already promised to eventually destroy theirs. But that is not happening, and the U.S. is refusing to declare that it won't use nuclear weapons agains non-nuclear states. So that's another reason why it's understandable that more countries want numclear weapons.

But the 70% figure sounds like someone just came up with it. Maybe it's just a little piece of news designed to keep American people afraid?

It wouldn't be the first time 'fear' was used as a political ploy - recall the many AMBER alerts.

Meh. Put on your shades and you'll be fine. Hell, get on the bandwagon and start a rigorous regimen of diet soda. Now THERE's going out with a bang.
