I Want My (Non-Partisan) MTV?

Nine Inch Nails has backed out of the MTV Movie Awards after a dispute erupted over the use of a George W. Bush image. Trent Reznor on NIN.com:

We were set to perform 'The Hand That Feeds' with an unmolested, straightforward image of George W. Bush as the backdrop. Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me.

Once hailed as a bastion of counter-culture and free speech the network had this to say:

While we respect Nine Inch Nails' point of view, we were uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement. - VH1.com
